Polo/Riding

Polo training, Farm chukkas and general riding takes place at the adjacent Westward Downs farm, owned by New Zealand Polo Internationals Alex and Steve Parrott, Alex is also an HPA Coach with many years of experience. There are also Overseas Polo players based at Westward Downs, such as Bud Sorby (Aus), Matt and Toby Pitts (UK), available for coaching and who will take part in farm chukkas. The combined handicaps at Westward Downs is 13 goals making for a high standard of Polo on the farm.

For those partners and family members not interested in riding, Amberwood provides the perfect relaxation spot, but also with many other interesting and fun activities, including Clay Pigeon Shooting, Jet Sking and Fishing, available in the area for the more adventurous, all of which can be organised for you. Car hire can be arranged should you require your own independence.

It is advisable to bring your own riding gear for maximum comfort, but please bear in mind this will need to declared on arrival in NZ with the Customs authority. This may cause a slight delay on entering NZ, but the authorities are very efficient provided declarations are made on entry. Gear can of course be provided for those who do not wish to bring their own, especially for the casual rider.
