Polo/Riding

The day is normally broken into tuition or stick and balling in the morning, followed by a light lunch, with farm or club chukkas in the afternoon depending on the day. Tuition is carried out here at Amberwood by Matt Pitts. Matt is a 3 Goal player with several years of experience as a professional in the UK and here in New Zealand, he was a member of the Waimai Saville Cup winning team in 2011 and has represented Young England. He has several years of experience in making, breaking and selling polo ponies, and has horses available to suit all abilities. If you would like to play in a tournament whilst in New Zealand this can be arranged but the dates will have to be organised prior to arrival as some tournaments are at other clubs. Farm treks and Beach rides are also available if you fancy a change from polo.

It is advisable to bring your own riding gear for maximum comfort, but please bear in mind this will need to declared on arrival in NZ with the Customs authority. This may cause a slight delay on entering NZ, but the authorities are very efficient provided declarations are made on entry. Gear can of course be provided for those who do not wish to bring their own, especially for the casual rider.

For those partners and family members not interested in riding, Amberwood provides the perfect relaxation spot, but also with many other interesting and fun activities, including Clay Pigeon Shooting, Jet Sking and Fishing, available in the area for the more adventurous, all of which can be organised for you. Car hire can be arranged should you require your own independence.
